Then the war came, and it destroyed me even more. Everything I had left was taken away. Our home, which was our last shelter and the only place that gave us some sense of safety, was destroyed. Now, we are left with nothing. Every day is a struggle just to survive. Life has become a nightmare—full of fear, hunger, and despair. There are moments when I wonder if I’ll ever smile again or live with dignity. I am sharing my story not to seek pity, but to ask for your help, from whatever God has given you. Even a little support can make a big difference in our lives. I still believe in kindness. I still have hope that there are people out there who care. Mahmoud’s Story: A Lawyer Who Lost Everything but His Humanity My name is Mahmoud Afana. I am a Palestinian lawyer from Rafah in the Gaza Strip. For more than ten years, I have dedicated my life to defending rights, empowering the vulnerable, and advocating for justice in courts and communities. I have worked on humanitarian and legal projects with both local and international organizations, and I have been part of efforts to protect marginalized groups such as women, children, and displaced persons. But in the recent war, I lost everything. My home was completely destroyed by airstrikes. My law office—the only source of income I had—was reduced to rubble. All means of work and livelihood came to a halt. I was forced to flee to the Al-Mawasi area in Khan Younis, where there is no shelter, no electricity, no clean water, and none of the basic necessities of life. I now live without a home, without an income, and without the resources to support myself and my family or start again. Despite it all, I have not stopped contributing in any way I can. I’ve participated in legal support projects for displaced people, conducted free legal awareness workshops, and continued to raise the voices of those who have none amid the destruction. But today, I need someone to stand with me—just as I have stood with others for years. I am asking for your support to help me rebuild my life. I am Amir Abu Al-Sabh, a resident of northern Gaza. I recount my harrowing experience of fleeing repeated threats and bombardment over several months. After the neighborhood was hit by white phosphorus bombs, my family and I fled to my aunt’s house, only to be displaced again within a week. Moving between different areas, including Al-Shifa Hospital, Khan Younis and Rafah, we endured six displacements in total due to ongoing military threats and ground invasions. Throughout this period, we faced horrific conditions, including lack of shelter, food, water and harsh weather. Despite assistance from UNRWA, our suffering continued. Now, having lost everything, I am left with my wife and three children, Omar, Seela and baby Mila, begging for help on a journey of resilience and hardship, trying to survive poverty and helplessness and rebuild our lives.

Cracks, leaks, and other challenges now threaten its safety and comfort. she wants to preserve this piece of history while making it a safe and welcoming place for the loved ones. Reconstructing a mud house requires a delicate balance of tradition and innovation. she aims to restore the structure using sustainable materials and techniques, while also incorporating modern touches for durability and comfort.
