Rusted Radishes Journal | مجلة فَمْ
Since 2012, through disaster and upheaval, Rusted Radishes: Beirut Literary and Art Journal has been publishing the most exciting literature and art from the Arab world, forging meaning from the current moment. The journal has evolved from a local Beirut-based English-language publication to a bilingual platform in Arabic and English and one of the Arab world’s most vital spaces for contemporary literature and art. Through our annual print issues, open-access webzine, and special editions, we bring together established writers and emerging voices shaping the cultural and literary landscapes of our region and diaspora. What began as a small initiative is now a living archive: more than a thousand works have been published across our open-access webzine and our annual print issues, each one speaking to the moment in poetry, prose, art, graphic narrative, and multimedia forms. Our growth has come from a thriving community of editors, writers, and artists in Beirut and the region as well as several creative collaborations with sister platforms and institutions. These partnerships have allowed us to deepen our engagement with urgent questions: How do we translate pain in the most painful times? What does labor mean in collapsing economies? How do we address shame, illness, money, and war without simplifying or surrendering to despair? At the heart of this massive undertaking is our mission of nurturing writers through the role of the editor—not as a gatekeeper, but as a companion in the creative process. Our editors spend long hours in dialogue with writers, helping shape each piece with care. This ethos also inspired our podcast series, Hazf wa Idafa, which explores the craft of literary editing, opening up the conversation in the Arab world. Our journal is built on the labor of volunteers—editors, designers, translators, digital content managers—who give their time and hearts to keep this space alive. We are grateful for the support of the American University of Beirut, which has provided funding for the printing costs of the annual special issue as well as event funding; and for the Arab Fund for Arts and Culture (AFAC) for four years of funding to expand our Arabic section as a source of contemporary Arabic literature. However, sustaining the journal as a whole to pay the people who keep it alive depends on the community it serves. In moments of devastation—Lebanon’s economic collapse, the port explosion, Israel’s ongoing attacks on Lebanon and genocide of Palestinians—Rusted Radishes has remained a space for meaning-making in the Arab world and beyond. If you believe in our mission, we invite you to support Rusted Radishes to reach our first fundraising goal for the year: $35,000 Your contribution helps us continue. Your solidarity makes this possible. To learn more about us, check our webzine at www.rustedradishes.com. How will we use $35,000? To pay people! 1. Funds will go toward paying contributors, editors, digital content managers, and designers. 2. Keeping our webzine as a current source of literature, art, and critical writing, we will publish one webzine piece per week for the next year. Rebuild our space ... Bring back our smiles!

Rebuild our space ... Bring back our smiles!
<Arabic below> Across the world, humanitarian aid is shrinking — and vulnerable communities like ours are paying the highest price. In Wavel Camp (Baalbek, Lebanon), our kindergarten was more than just a school. It was a sanctuary — a safe, nurturing space where 160 children from Palestinian and Syrian refugee families, as well as vulnerable Lebanese households, could learn, play, and dream. Then came the war. Our beloved building was damaged, and our hopes rested on support to rebuild. But amid global funding cuts, our children were left behind — with no classroom, no resources, and no safe place to return to. Still, we refuse to give up. We’re determined to restore this vital space — to bring back warmth, safety, and joy to children who have already endured far too much. But we can’t do it without you. Your support can rebuild not just a building — but their future. Every dollar counts.

Help Hrayr Get His Treatment!

Medical

Help Hrayr Get His Treatment!
It all started back in 2021 when he began to notice something unsettling: a growing weakness in his legs and a constant tingling sensation in his hands. The symptoms kept getting worse over time. His balance became unsteady, and walking or taking the stairs for even a short distance felt like a struggle. After visiting several doctors and undergoing a series of tests, Hrayr was diagnosed with Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuropathy (CIDP), a rare autoimmune disorder that attacks the protective covering of his nerves. The diagnosis hit Hrayr hard, as he was told that without treatment, the disease could progressively worsen, potentially leaving him unable to walk. Because the treatment was too expensive, Hrayr's doctor recommended other ways to help keeping him stable and standing on his feet. He tried several medications such as Solumedrol, Corticosteroids (Prednisone), Immunosuppressive Drugs (Cellsept, Probeptol, Super B-Complex, Dietaroma, Neurobion) but none actually made any difference. He would get better for a couple of weeks and after that would be back to zero. When nothing worked, the doctor insisted on underlying the IVIG treatment. This treatment costs nearly 10,000$ as a start and the expenses reach to 20,000$. We're doing this fundraiser so that we can help Hrayr get back on his feet and get his life back to normal. If you read this and feel compassionate with Hrayr, please reach out and help him in anyway you can. We thank you for being by our side through this tough time. Regards, Hrayr's family & friends.

Help the Hala Family Escape the Crisis in Gaza

Emergency

Help the Hala Family Escape the Crisis in Gaza
My name is Hala Nael , and I am reaching out from Gaza City on behalf of my family with a heartfelt plea for your support. Once a thriving and close-knit family, we are now facing unimaginable hardships as a result of the relentless conflict. The Shabet family has been torn apart by violence, leaving us without a home, livelihood, or security. Before the War Our life in Gaza was humble yet filled with hope and dreams for the future. My husband worked tirelessly to provide for our children, and I was devoted to building a nurturing environment for them. Our three children—Sajid, 9, Abdul Rahman, 7, and Zeina, 4—brought joy and purpose to our lives. Sajid, an ambitious and bright student, dreams of becoming a doctor to heal the sick and bring comfort to those in need. Our home was filled with love and aspirations, despite the challenges of living in Gaza. After the War Everything changed in the blink of an eye. The ongoing conflict has left us shattered. My mother-in-law and her siblings were killed in an airstrike, and my husband suffered a devastating injury, losing his hand in the attack. Our home, once our sanctuary, was reduced to rubble. Food is scarce, and we are struggling just to survive. Each day is a battle against starvation, fear, and despair. Why We Need Your Help Our greatest wish is to escape this endless cycle of violence and rebuild our lives in a place where our children can live in peace, dignity, and safety. But we cannot do this alone. The road to safety is filled with obstacles—financial, emotional, and logistical. Your help is our only hope. How the Funds Will Be Spent The funds raised will be used to meet our immediate needs: Food and Shelter: To provide basic sustenance and a roof over our heads. Travel Costs: To help us leave Gaza and find a safer place to rebuild our lives. Basic Supplies: To ensure our children have the essentials they need to grow and learn. Your generosity can help turn our story of loss into one of hope and healing. Our Children’s Dreams Our children are the heart of our family and the reason we fight to survive each day. Sajid (9 years old): An ambitious and talented student, Sajid dreams of becoming a doctor. He wants to heal others and bring comfort to the suffering, inspired by the pain he has witnessed. Abdul Rahman (7 years old): A lively child with a kind heart, he dreams of a life filled with laughter and stability. Zeina (4 years old): Full of innocence and curiosity, she deserves a chance to grow up in a world free from the shadows of war. Their dreams are simple yet profound: to live in a home where they can feel safe and pursue a future without fear. Conclusion Your contributions can give us the chance to start anew. No matter the size, every donation will bring us closer to safety, stability, and a brighter future. We are prepared to provide videos and photos documenting our struggles, should you need proof of our dire situation. Thank you for opening your heart to our family. Your kindness will forever remain in our prayers, and you will be a part of our journey toward hope and healing. With deepest gratitude, Hala Shabet

The "Champion of Sports" initiative, established by 5th-grade students at the Soeurs des Saints-Coeurs School in Fakiha - Ras Baalbeck, is a sports cooperative aimed at promoting teamwork, social interaction, and leadership development among students. The cooperative plans to transform the school's playground into a futsal (mini-football) field, addressing the lack of necessary sports equipment, such as balls and goal nets, and meeting safety standards. To realize this vision, the cooperative conducted a cost study, determining the need for $8,000 in funding. They appeal for support to make a positive impact on their school and future generations, emphasizing the value of collaboration and development through sports.
