My name is Karim, and I have been living with ulcerative colitis since 2016. This is a chronic and painful inflammatory bowel disease that causes severe and unpredictable flare-ups.

Right now, I’m going through a difficult flare that is affecting every aspect of my life—physically, emotionally, and socially. The symptoms are not only painful, but also deeply embarrassing, making it extremely hard for me to attend school, go to work, or even maintain a normal social life.

My doctor has prescribed Stelara, a monthly injection that helps control the inflammation and gives me a chance at living a stable, more normal life. Unfortunately, each injection costs $2,500, and this cost could rise in the future.
